Here's How to Make a Batched Cocktail on The Fly

Today: A tangy, fruity batched drink that takes no bull.

There’s something satisfying about being able to help yourself to drinks at a party. And it’s not just nice for guests; the hosts, we can assure you, are happy to cross it off their lists of things to organize while running back and forth to the kitchen.

Big batch cocktails are one of our gathering go-tos: They work for myriad occasions, are easily scaled up or down to fit your numbers, and are great for parties that require your hands for other last-minute prep (yes, even if that prep is only pouring a bottle of something strong into pre-mixed juices). If you want to scale up one of your favorite drinks, just calculate how much of each ingredient is needed for each serving and multiply that by the number of people you plan to serve.

The Matador is a great choice to offer up to big groups. A fruitier friend of the margarita, this drink is meant to be shared outdoors: in backyards, at barbecues, or on the beach. For this version, we used a simple combination of fresh pineapple juice, lime juice, and tequila blanco. (Fresh pineapple juice is essential—the lime juice will overpower it if you go with a weaker canned version.)

The best part of a punch bowl that's full of juice and booze? Versatility. If you set out different garnishes, everyone can make their glass their own—we go for a little bubbly for the top, or even some homemade grenadine to splash in at the end.  

Big Batch Matador

Serves 10

15 ounces Don Julio Blanco tequila
7 1/2 ounces fresh pineapple juice
5 ounces fresh lime juice
