The Best Thing You Can Put in Your Waffle Maker Is Puff Pastry Dough

At first blush, a waffle iron is a one-trick pony (albeit it an awfully good one): Pour waffle batter in, make waffles, eat waffles joyfully. This would be enough—but the waffle iron has a couple more tricks up its sleeves. We've known about the magic of waffled potatoes, waffled zucchini, and even waffled chocolate cake, but KatieQ introduced us to a very, very useful hack, and a very good reason to keep puff pastry dough in your freezer at all times.

Today, we'll be stocking up on a few sheets of puff pastry ourselves so that tomorrow, when we're too sleepy or hungover to mosey to the nearest coffee shop for a red-eye and a croissant, we'll just be able to pull a sheet of pastry dough out of the freezer, thaw it, trim it into quarters, and lay the quarters one by one in the waffle maker. Ta da! Croissant waffles—a heck of a way to ring in the new year.
