Hotline MVP of the Month

To thank our members for their dedication to helping out their fellow cooks, every month we’ll choose a Food52er whose activity on the Hotline has caught our eye, and treat him or her to a $25 gift certificate to our Shop

Today: See who had the write stuff this month.

We're excited to announce that May's Hotline MVP is PieceofLayerCake!

PieceofLayerCake is a baker and pastry chef at a Belgian patisserie in Chicago, so it will come as no surprise that he's often found coming to the rescue on all manner of baking-related questions, like what to substitute for alcohol in a cake and how to remove wheat flour from a cake without sacrificing texture. He helps fellow Food52ers figure out why bread failed to rise or a cake failed to set and passes on tips regarding cake storage and tempering.

He's got a number of layers to his expertise, though, so you'll find him helping out on non-baking related questions as well: trouble-shooting homemade pasta, sharing guidance on infusing oils, and suggesting uses for hard-cooked egg yolks.

Congratulations to PieceofLayerCake and thanks to everyone who participates over on the Hotline—the community wouldn’t be the same without you.

Want to boost your kitchen karma? We’re looking for enthusiastic participation throughout the month that is helpful, thoughtful, and considerate.
