The Next Negroni

The temperature’s dropping, the coats are coming out, tea, fireplaces—fa la la blah blah. You’re probably still ordering Negronis like it’s Summer 2015 (and 2014). We are, too. But not without curiosity about what else is out there.

For the times when you want the citrus, bitter, and deep-hued lure of a Negroni—but you don’t want yet another one—there’s the Paper Plane. Amaro and Aperol bring the bitter (Aperol also a moody red hue), a squeeze of lemon the citrus zing. It’s even tailored for the winter months, as bourbon is swapped in for gin at a time when it feels that clear liquors are like the color white: unacceptable after Labor Day.

Shake it in a shaker with ice and pour this one into a coupe or a rocks glass—or a mug, if you’re really ready to move on from Summer 2015.

The Paper Plane Cocktail

Make 1

3/4 ounces bourbon
3/4 ounces Amaro Nonino

3/4 ounces Aperol
3/4 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice

See the recipe (and save and print it) here.
